AUSTERITY NOSTALGIA
November 5th – January 20th
Austerity Nostalgia has recently become a cultural and artistic obsession and this exhibition looks to explore the artistic response to this current trend. The idea behind this exhition is to look at how the past, specifically 1930s – 1980s, is re-interpreted. A time period which covers social history, politics, fashion, domesticity, design, music etc. Unfortunatly these decades are continually being rediscovered and possibly mis-interpreted, reflecting a false authenticity which is possibly changing the future generations perspective of what was the recent past. You can see it already in how we percive life was in WW2. This can be futhur highlighted by looking into the use of the term ‘Blitz Spirit’. Austerity Nostalgia is more of question than a statement and a subject that we want people to talk about.
