GS Artists are delighted to announce our Heledd C Evans will take up our Artist At Work opportunity from the 8th of October till the 6th of November.
intended to be heard in a specific situation or environment, often working with a combination of field recordings, musical elements, and electronic interventions. Recent projects include ‘24HRS’, an hour long soundscape inspired by a 24 hour period and how we experience sound and time within that, and a commissioned sound installation, ‘Hiraeth’ for Beyond the Border Storytelling Festival.
She says of the opportunity – ‘Over the course of my residency I’m interested in exploring and experimenting with different elements of my practice and work process. My home has been my studio for a long time, resulting in me creating mostly in isolation. I am excited to see the effect that working in a new environment with other people will have on my practice, and am keen to experiment with sound in a physical space again – the acoustics of the gallery space are particularly interesting, and I am interested in exploring live sound and how it interacts with the acoustics of the building.’
The Artist at Work opportunity was devised initially to make use of the gallery between shows, offered to artists to use as a studio space to create new work. It became part of the program, with our first official Artist- Craig Wood in January 2017. Previous artists At Work include; Cecile Johnson Soliz, Rose Davies, Joan Jones, Tim Davies, Sarah Poland, and Owen Griffiths and Melissa Rodrigues. It recognises the difficulty for artists to make large, experimental works, or just have space. Despite no fixed outcome or commitment, apart from to share this creative journey with us, this residency has resulted in a wide range of events, talks, publications & discussions. We are very excited to see what Heledd produces over the next weeks.

During Heledd’s time working in the gallery on Swansea high street she will be providing weekly updates for the community through our social media platforms. She wishes to develop and share elements of her conversations with Tess Wood around the performative aspects of her practice and how they can accumulate as a public event during this time. Mae’n bleser gan GS Artists gyhoeddi y bydd Heledd C Evans yn ymgymryd â chynllun Artist yn y Gwaith o’r 8fed o Hydref tan y 6ed o Dachwedd.
Artist a chyflwynydd radio wedi ei lleoli yng Nghaerdydd yw Heledd C Evans. Yn bennaf, mae’n creu darnau sain y bwriedir eu clywed mewn sefyllfa neu amgylchedd penodol, gan weithio’n aml gyda chyfuniad o recordiadau maes, elfennau cerddorol ac ymyriadau electronig. Mae prosiectau diweddar yn cynnwys ‘24HRS’, sef llunwedd awr o hyd wedi ei hysbrydoli gan gyfnod o 24 awr a sut rydym yn profi sain ac amser o fewn hynny, a gosodiad sain wedi ei gomisiynu o’r enw ‘Hiraeth’, ar gyfer Gŵyl Adrodd Straeon Beyond the Border.
Dywed am y cyfle – ‘Yn ystod fy nghyfnod preswyl, byddai’n ymddiddori mewn archwilio ac arbrofi gyda gwahanol elfennau o fy ymarfer a fy mhroses o weithio. Mae fy nghartref wedi bod yn stiwdio ifi ers amser maith, sydd wedi arwain at greu ar fy mhen fy hunan yn bennaf. Rwy’n gyffrous am weld yr effaith y bydd gweithio mewn amgylchedd newydd gyda phobl eraill yn ei chael ar fy ymarfer, ac rwy’n awyddus i arbrofi gyda sain mewn gofod corfforol unwaith eto – mae acwsteg gofod yr oriel yn arbennig o ddiddorol, ac rwy’n edrych ymlaen at archwilio sain byw a sut mae’n rhyngweithio ag acwsteg yr adeilad.’
Dyfeisiwyd y cyfle Artist yn y Gwaith yn y lle cyntaf i ddefnyddio’r oriel rhwng sioeau, wedi ei gynnig i artistiaid ei defnyddio fel gofod stiwdio i greu gwaith newydd. Daeth yn rhan o’r rhaglen, gyda’n hartist swyddogol cyntaf – Craig Wood – yn Ionawr 2017. Mae Artistiaid yn y Gwaith blaenorol yn cynnwys Cecile Johnson Soliz, Rose Davies, Joan Jones, Tim Davies, Sarah Poland, Owen Griffiths a Melissa Rodrigues. Mae’r cynllun yn cydnabod yr anhawster sy’n wynebu artistiaid o ran gwneud gweithiau mawr, arbrofol, neu i gael lle. Er nad oes disgwyl cael canlyniad nac ymrwymiad sefydlog, ar wahân i rannu’r siwrnai greadigol hon gyda ni, mae’r cyfnod preswyl hwn wedi arwain at ystod eang digwyddiadau, sgyrsiau, cyhoeddiadau a thrafodaethau. Rydym yn gyffrous iawn i weld yr hyn y bydd Heledd yn ei gynhyrchu dros yr wythnosau nesaf.
